About ThisFont

Fonts are easier to choose when you can see why they work.

Thisfont.com is being built as a practical typography library: part catalogue, part learning resource and part design playground.

What we are building

A font directory can tell you that a typeface exists. ThisFont aims to go further by showing what it feels like in real words, where it tends to work, what it pairs with, what structural traits it has, and how it behaves alongside colour.

The catalogue is designed to hold open-source, free, commercial, historical and proprietary font metadata without pretending that every catalogued font is available for redistribution.

Catalogue first, download second

Every family can exist in the database as a catalogue record. A direct download is only enabled when a specific font file has a verified source and licence record. That separation lets the library grow without blurring the difference between discovering a typeface and having permission to redistribute its files.

Tools for real design decisions

The logo maker, pairing tool and type + colour lab are intended to help people test typography in context. The aim is not to replace professional design software, but to make early exploration much faster and more informed.

Type meets colour

ThisFont is designed to connect with Palette Burst so a font can be explored alongside colour palettes, contrast information, mood and use-case metadata. That creates a richer design layer: not just “which font?” or “which colours?”, but “which combination communicates the right thing?”
